The life of a slightly untypical Georgia redneck

Frank Gillispie is the founder of the Madison County Journal of Danielsville, GA

American by Birth - Southern by the Grace of God best explains my culture, opinions and purpose. I am a pround son of Confederate Veterans. My family has been in the south sense 1716 or earlier. I don't know when my Cherokee ancestors arrived. The most recent immigrant in my ancestor was my Great Grandfather Jasper Kay who arrived from Ireland just after the War Between the States.

I have been described as one of the world's most dangerous men. I am a half-smart, semi-self educated Georgia Redneck. As a typical redneck, I assume that I can do anything I set my mind to do. While in the Georgia National Guard, I tought myself to compute artillery fire. Without any formal training in journalism, I started a successful newspaper., the Madison County Journal, in Danielsville, Georgia.

I still write a weekly opinion column in which I frequently harrass politicians and yankees.

Now at the age of 69, I find myself for the first time facing health issues. I am now in my second year of treatment for diabetes and colon cancer. Both diseases were detected farily early leading to better chances for a successful outcome.

I had cancer surgery on July 31 2007 and have completed a six month program of oral chemotheropy. Doctors currently rate my chances of complete recovery from that nasty disease at 80%. So let me join those voices who urge you to get checked early for these and other dangerous diseases.
